This single-family home is located on a ravine-edge above Rio Park in Edmonton’s established neighbourhood of Patricia Heights. Key for our clients was a house that served as secluded retreat; as a result, the front façade is relatively opaque. Ground floor windows are shielded by the landscape, and at the second-floor a series of angled metal fins provides a layer of privacy from the street. A bend in the south-facing façade provides privacy from neighboring properties and directs views toward the natural setting beyond. A deeply covered terrace off the dining room mitigates solar gains, provides outdoor living space, and further focuses sightlines from the interior, enhancing the feeling of being embedded in nature.
